This is an incredible public service! Tom gave me the tools to navigate our way out of a nightmare caused by multiple, incorrect website listings for my business. It was IMPOSSIBLE to contact a human being at any of the offending sites - Yahoo, Google, Yellow Pages, JustCLickLocal (the worst!)- Tom was online and provided immediate assistance. Wow– this is a great list of directories. Would be nice if you could also put a star next to the ones that are free. Have you seen getlisted.org by David Mihm and others? I also highly recommend UniversalBusinessListings.

Would love to hear more about the interplay between paid search and listings– to see how both in combination create lift, by looking at average position across regular organic, maps, and paid– then lift in calls.

This is a great list. As you can see it takes a lot of time for a business to get this listings to all of the above locations. plus very hard to get in to gps and navigational devices like Tom Tom and Onstar. We created an automated system at Universal Business Listing that for a one time fee of $30 does all of that for the business owner and for the data agregators us listed we have a express agreement with full reporting in a dashboard back to the business.
